Jumbo

Let's begin the new year 2026 with a lovely walk to discover Kalamata.
We start from Jumbo, walking along the seaside, then cross the railway park, followed by Aristomemous street, then we'll pass the old town, the central market and go up to Ypapandis cathedral and the castle.
One of the highlights is for sure the Nunnery which we'll visit then.
Then we walk down the back roads of the Old Town and pass the Archeological museum of Messinia and Aghios Apostolis church on the 23rd March Square
Then we turn back direction Jumbo area and have a drink somewhere long our route.

The chronicle of today

Today's walk was different from the others because, instead of crossing olive groves and paths, we explored the streets of Kalamata.
Seventeen Freewalkers gathered in the harbour area to discover the most charming corners of this delightful city.
Churches, a monastery, various historical monuments and a relaxing stroll through the pedestrian area and the old town.
At each stop, we were informed about interesting historical information and curiosities from our guides.
At the end, we met up, as usual, for a drink together.
See you next Saturday, 7th of March, at 10 am at the old pumping station on the edge of the Voidokilia lagoon.
